The Video That Inspired Raheem to Register as a Stem Cell Donor

Stories that touch your heart and remind you that kindness is still very much alive.

There are some stories that touch your heart and remind you that kindness is still very much alive. This is the journey of Abdul Raheem Cheche, a 23-year-old student whose simple act of empathy opened the door to someone else’s second chance at life.

His story began in 2024, when he came across a video by Dhruv Rathee in collaboration with DKMS. What started as simple scrolling soon led to a crucial decision making. The stories of young patients like Chirag and Roman struck a chord in him. Even though Raheem had no personal experience with blood cancer or blood disorders in his family, he felt a strong pull to do something meaningful. He knew a little about these illnesses, but not enough, and that curiosity and compassion led him to register as a potential blood stem cell donor with DKMS Foundation, India.

The Journey

Then came July 2025, the moment that changed everything. DKMS representative contact him and told he was a match. A perfect match for someone whose life depended on it. His family was surprised, stem cell donation wasn’t something they were familiar with. But beneath the disbelief came support, pride, and encouragement. And for him, fear was never part of the equation. His belief was simple and powerful: “Humanity is the topmost religion. There is nothing greater than being human.”

The journey from Raheem’s home in Kashmir to the collection centre in Faridabad became a memory he cherishes deeply. Everything felt smooth and comforting. He describes the experience as amazing and unforgettable, especially his interactions with Mr. Mathew from DKMS, whom he calls one of the kindest and most gentle people he has ever met. On the day of the donation, he found himself thinking only one thing—that his body would produce enough stem cells to help the patient waiting with hope for a new life.

His experience with DKMS Foundation, India, filled him with gratitude and warmth. He speaks highly of the team that stood by him at every step. In his words, he doesn’t have enough words to describe how smooth and positive everything felt.

After the donation, his family and friends were full of pride and encouragement. He walked away feeling light, happy, and deeply fulfilled, knowing he had been part of something truly meaningful.

Message For All

His message to his recipient is heartfelt and sincere: “May Allah bless you with a healthier life. I wish you a successful treatment and speedy recovery.” It is a blessing filled with hope and gentle strength.
