Read her story of becoming a lifesaver:
“I registered as a potential blood stem cell donor with DKMS in 2020. At the time, I just knew it was a small step that could make a big difference - but I never imagined how meaningful it would truly become. Being part of someone’s chance at life is an experience I’ll always carry with me.
What motivated me? Honestly, it was the realization of how simple it is to make such a big difference in someone’s life. The idea that a few hours of my time could give someone years of life - it just felt right.
The Donation Process
When I got the call saying I was a match for a patient, I was thrilled and incredibly grateful. I didn’t have any fears about the process. I’ve donated blood multiple times, so I felt mentally prepared - though I did joke about having to wake up early for the G-CSF shots! My family and friends took a little convincing, mostly because they weren’t aware of what stem cell donation involves. But once I explained everything, they were supportive.
The journey to the collection centre was smooth, and the donation itself felt a lot like giving blood - only more special. It was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience. I felt some weakness afterward, but the joy of what I had done outweighed everything. The feeling was overwhelming - in the best way.
I’d love to tell my recipient: take all the time you need to heal and regain your strength. I may not know you, but I’ve been thinking of you and wishing you well every step of the way. I truly hope our paths cross someday - it would mean the world to meet the person whose life I had the chance to touch.
Message For All
To those who haven’t registered yet - please, please do it. You have the power to change not just one life, but an entire family’s future. And to those who’ve registered but are unsure - talk to your doctor. Get your questions answered and then make your decision.
And if you're about to donate - go for it! It’s an unforgettable experience. You’ll come out of it not just as a donor, but as someone’s hero.
